New Honda Prologue SUV is a distant relation to the Hummer

6 Oct 2022

This is the new Honda Prologue, the first electric SUV from the Japanese firm and, unlikely as it may seem, a distant relation of the GMC Hummer EV pick-up.

That’s because the new machine is the first product of a partnership between Honda and General Motors that involves the Japanese firm developing models that use the US car giant’s new Ultium platform. Which is used for EVs such as the new Cadillac Lyriq, the forthcoming Chevrolet Blazer EV and, yes, the massive new Hummer.

Now, The Honda Prologue is currently only set for the US market, where it will launch in 2024. But it’s an interesting machine, and given it’s reasonably well-sized for UK roads, it’s worthy of some attention.

Honda describes the machine as having a ‘neo-rugged’ design, which we think means it’s very much an EV designed for the urban market, but it’s been given some rugged SUV design cues because buyers tend to like them.

It’s 4877mm long and has a wheelbase of 3094mm, which makes it a bit bigger than the combustion-engined Honda CR-V, and broadly similar in size to the Blazer EV it’s closely related to.

Honda has yet to detail any technical information, but based on what we know about the GM models expect a choice of front- and all-wheel-drive, a range of about 320 miles and the ability to charge at 170kW.

Notably, the concept is the first Honda to feature the brand’s name spelled out on the rear boot lid instead of the brand’s traditional H logo, and sits on big 21in wheels.

Inside, the Prologue features an 11.3in infotainment touchscreen and a 11in digital driver info display.

The new Honda Prologue is one of the first models from Honda's commitment to launch 30 electric cars worldwide by 2030.
