The Munich motor show has long been a hub for major car reveals, and 2025 was no different.
Car makers, including BMW and Volkswagen, all presented their latest innovations, but it’s Mercedes-Benz we’re focusing on here.
-
The German brand revealed the new GLC EQ, an SUV which will go on sale next year as the successor to the existing EQC. We’ve got all the details about it right here.
-
The GLC is Mercedes’ best-selling car, so it makes sense for the car maker to focus its next-generation efforts on developing a new model. It sits in the premium SUV segment, which Mercedes considers “the most important” of all.
-
The electric GLC EQ introduces a host of new styling features. Among them is a huge front grille cover, named ‘Iconic Grille’, which will only be applied to Mercedes’ electric cars. There’s also a new rear light bar.
-
Five power outputs will be offered on the new GLC EQ. The GLC 400 EQ will be the first to go on sale, with 483bhp available from dual electric motors for all-wheel drive.
-
Power comes from a 94kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt battery, which offers a driving range of 435 miles.
-
Thanks to its 800V architecture, the GLC EQ can also charge at speeds of up to 330kW. That compares favourably with the Audi E-tron GT and the Porsche Taycan, both of which can charge at speeds of up to 320kW.
-
Both the front and rear suspension systems feature a multi-link design. An optional air suspension system can lower the car at higher speeds, which helps to reduce drag and increase range. Additionally, an optional rear-wheel steering system is available, which decreases the car's turning circle to 11.2m.
-
The GLC EQ heralds in a next-generation interior for Mercedes. As an option, drivers can select the largest ever digital screen on a Mercedes car so far, measuring a huge 39.1 inches.
-
It’s called the Hyperscreen, and it fills almost the entire dashboard from the driver’s side, over to the passenger.
-
That’s not all; the GLC EQ also get a vegan package, which Mercedes says will be the first in which all soft-touch materials are certified by the Vegan Society.
-
As is the way with modern cars in 2025, the GLC EQ will come with lots of assistance systems to assist with driving. As well as speed limit detection, adaptive cruise control and active emergency braking, Mercedes says drivers can select a ‘transparent bonnet’ function, which assists with off-road driving.
-
The GLC EQ will be built at Mercedes’ factory in Bremen, Germany. Other cars, also based on the brand’s MB.EA platform will also be built here, with additional production in Hungary and China.
-
But when can you buy it? Mercedes says the GLC EQ will go on sale in early 2026. Pricing will be revealed later this year, but we’d expect it to be significantly more expensive than the petrol-powered GLC and the outgoing EQC.
