Wireless e-scooter charging pad claims 50% efficiency gains

23 Dec 2021

A wireless charging system for e-scooter fleet operators has been unveiled, with its maker claiming it can charge 50% more scooters in the same space as a regular wired charging system.

Made by Meredot, the wireless charging pad can be used by compatible e-scooters, e-bikes and other electrically powered forms of transport. It is said to work with best-selling e-scooter brands such as Bird, Lime, Bolt and Xiaomi.

The charging pads are modular, meaning that operators can install charge zones at different sizes according to demand, and can either be installed under asphalt or above it. Meredot says the key advantage is that it removes the need for operators to either manually swap batteries or physically plug in their fleets to charge.

“Today, one of the industry’s biggest challenges is finding a way to increase the capacity of very limited parking space without making riders wait longer for their vehicles to charge,” said Roman Bysko, CEO of Meredot.

The charging pads have already been tested in Italy and Israel. They charge at up to 100W per charging slot, with each charging station having up to 20 slots.

The charging station can also be linked via software to give charging status updates in real time, so that fleet operators can monitor the battery status of anything on charge.
