Bosch launches new race-focused e-bike motor

28 Sep 2022

Well known for its development of some of the best mid-drive motors around, Bosch has released its new race-oriented drive system, the Bosch Performance Line CX Race Limited Edition.

An evolution of the highly regarded Performance Line CX drive system, the Race Limited Edition is tailored for racers and performance riders.

Designed specifically to keep up with the demands of eMTB racing, the new system is the firm's lightest yet, with the drive system weighing just 2.75kg.

Reducing the overall weight of racing eMTBs is key to providing better handling, more control on jumps and descents, and of course, making it far easier to pedal when the motor is turned off.

On top of this, in Race mode, the new system will have up to 400% support of the rider’s power, meaning riders can get up to speed faster, which for pro rider Joris Ryf, was key for the new product’s development.

"For us pros, it was a real enrichment to be involved in the development of a product for our competitions. The most important thing for me was a drive unit that would get me up to top speed faster and keep me at top speed for longer – and we succeeded."

Extended Boost, usually found in eMTB mode has also been upgraded for Race mode. The thrust has been extended so that riders can easily tackle large boulders, steps and roots with more ease. This, and the dynamics, amount of assist, maximum speed and maximum torque can all be adjusted in the eBike Flow app.

This new and limited edition drive system is set to be a game changer for eMTB racers, but brands and models that will use the system are yet to be announced. It will, however, likely be limited to about 20 leading race-focussed eMTB manufacturers.
