Swedish firm Movs launches two new subscription-only e-bikes

16 Feb 2023

Looking for an urban e-bike with a strong Scandinavian influence? Then two new e-bikes from micromobility firm Movs may be for you – although only if you live in Sweden for now.

Launched this month, the Nörd and Ergo are both designed primarily for the urban environment, featuring a sleek design and what the Swedish firm claims is an “intuitive driving experience”.

Interestingly, rather than having the bikes available for purchase, users hire them through a MOVS membership scheme which aims to make owning an e-bike more affordable. The bikes will launch in Sweden this year, with Movs planning to expand into other countries in 2024.

The Nörd is an urban-inspired belt-driven e-bike while the Ergo is a step-through city e-bike. Both bikes will have a Uniframe design, which means the frame is made from a single piece of aluminium with no joins. Other details are scarce at the moment, but we do know the company will be using mostly proprietary tech, including the “premium class removable battery” among other components all developed in-house.

Speaking about the subscription-based membership scheme, Movs chief and co-founder Mikael Klingberg said: “For us, it is important to think differently. Instead of selling e-bikes, we offer a membership with a simple and accessible platform.

“Rather than applying the traditional method of using standardised bike components off the shelf, we have developed most of the parts for our bikes ourselves. Everything to create top quality electric bikes that get city dwellers from all over to jump into the saddle”.

The e-bikes certainly look the part and appear to be rather minimalist, but with some utilitarian features like the baskets and rear racks.

While UK riders won’t be able to get their hands on the Movs bikes this year, there is some good news: the firm has told us the UK is one of the markets being considered their planned 2024 expansion.
