French car brand Peugeot will offer its e-208 electric hatchback with an updated powertrain next year with the revised model set to gain in both range and power.
Peugeot’s updated electric supermini will be equipped with the same 51kWh battery that will sit in the floor of the recently revealed Peugeot e-308.
Range is now up to 248 miles (225 miles in the previous model) with the car delivering an output of 115kW, up by 15kW on the last generation variant.
The e-208 can be charged at up to 100kW, with a 20-80% charge talking less than 25 minutes.
Thanks to the more powerful electric motor, torque is up to 192lb ft which should be good for a sub eight second 0-60mph time - although Peugeot is yet to confirm the exact figure.
Peugeot's new battery pack uses a new chemical composition that is made up of 80% nickel, 10% manganese and 10% cobalt, which the firm says offers improved energy efficiency.
To improve efficiency Peugeot has added a heat pump and humidity sensor, while class A+ tyres are fitted to minimise energy loss through friction.
The addition of a humidity sensor makes it possible to control air circulation in the cabin more accurately, helping to preserve the amount of energy in the battery when using the heater inside the car.
Peugeot has also worked on efficiency when driving in colder conditions, particularly around freezing temperatures.
The French car brand is yet to reveal the pricing for its updated electric supermini but we estimate a starting price of around £32,000.
