The Renault 4 EV will be unveiled at the Paris motor show next month, with the electric reinvention of the classic model taking the form of a compact 4x4.
Renault’s high-riding off-roader will use the CMF-BEV platform it shares with Nissan and will sit above the Renault 5 hatchback which is due in 2024.
Expected to land in 2025, the new Renault 4 will only share its name with the classic version, which was produced from 1961 to 1994.
Renault Group is developing new battery and electric motor technology, but is yet to confirm any of the 4’s technical specifications.
To conclude the French manufacturer's year-long celebrations of the Renault 5's 50th anniversary, Renault has also promised a "sporty and offbeat show car".
Mobilize, the Group's mobility arm, will be in attendance at the motor show to exhibit the Mobilize Duo, the spiritual successor to the Renault Twizy.
Renault Group’s performance brand Alpine will also showcase a new concept car which the firm says will show “the future of its product and sports strategy”.
Alpine is to embark on a bold electrification plan, with the car brand set to bring three new electric cars to the market in 2024. Future models include the GT-X performance SUV and an electric successor to the A110 sports car.
