Peugeot is to supply postal service, the Royal Mail, with an additional 2000 new electric vans, helping the delivery service to expand its growing fleet of electric vehicles.
The French car manufacturer will supply the Royal Mail with new e-Expert and e-Parter electric vans, which will join the 28,000 Peugeot vehicles already used by the organisation.
With the addition of 1000 e-Partner and 1000 e-Expert vans, the Royal Mail hopes to erm, address, its aim of having 5500 electric vehicles within its fleet by Spring 2023.
70 Royal Mail delivery offices have made the transition to electrification so far, many of which deliver to people in cities with a low emission zone, such as London, Bristol and Oxford.
Peugoet’s e-Partner electric van is powered by a 50kWh battery which offers a range of up to 171 miles and has a load volume of 4.4m3, the same as its diesel equivalent.
The firm’s bigger e-Expert van can be fitted with either a 50kWh or 75kWh battery, offering a range of up to 143 miles and 205 miles respectively.
Peugeot says the Royal Mail’s commitment to reduce emissions throughout its operations is in line with its electrification strategy. The car maker aims to provide customers with an electrified variant of each model in its range by 2024.
“I am incredibly pleased that we can continue to support Royal Mail with models from our award-winning electric van range, including the PEUGEOT e-Partner, which is set to be produced right here in the UK at our Ellesmere Port plant from early next year,” said Julie David, managing director of Peugeot UK.
“With every van in our range already benefiting from an electric version and every car offering an electrified variant by 2024, we look forward to continuing our support of the Royal Mail and its ambition for a greener future.”
