Lime to use pedal power to help provide food to low-income Londoners

20 Dec 2022

Leading shared e-bike firm Lime will partner with The Felix Project charity to help provide meals to low-income families in London – through the use of electrically assisted pedal power.

The Felix Project collects surplus food from suppliers and restaurants and redistributes it to charities, with the aim of both ending food poverty and reducing food waste. It has now launched an Empty Plate Emergency Appeal to raise additional funds to provide food to low-income households this winter.

A number of Lime’s e-bikes in London has been fitted with Ride to Provide stickers, and all the revenue from those machines in December will be donated to the appeal. Lime expects the total to be around £20,000, enough to provide about 90,000 meals to low-income households living on less than £3 per day.

The bikes will also feature a QR code that riders can scan to donate directly to the appeal. Riders can also round up the cost of each ride to donate spare change to the Felix Project.

Lime’s UK public affairs manager Hal Stevenson said: “Riders should keep an eye out for ‘Ride to Provide’ stickers, and know that by riding Lime they’ll be donating to an important cause this December.”

Charlotte Hill, the head of The Felix Project, said: “We know the cost of living crisis is having a huge impact on low income families and this year many more are struggling to feed their children and keep their homes warm. It is vital The Felix Project is there to supply food to those working with people experiencing food insecurity.”

A survey of people living in the capital with an annual salary of under £20,000 found that 41 per cent said they had skipped meals to ensure they had food for their children, with 19 per cent very worried about being able to feed their children this winter. Nine per cent said that they have just £2.85 per day to spent on food.
